What is Candela Matrix?
Matrix is an FDA-cleared skin-renewal platform from Candela. It includes three modalities: Sublime (infrared light and RF), Sublative RF (fractional resurfacing) and Matrix Pro (RF microneedling). Your provider can use one or combine them, depending on your concerns.
What's the difference between Sublime, Sublative RF and Matrix Pro?
They work at different depths. Sublime is needle-free and gently heats deeper layers to smooth and firm. Sublative RF is needle-free fractional resurfacing for texture, scarring and wrinkles. Matrix Pro uses fine needles to deliver RF at adjustable depths for the most intensive remodeling. Matrix is the overall platform; Matrix Pro is the RF microneedling applicator within it.
How many treatments will I need?
Most clients benefit from a series of treatments. The number depends on your concerns, the modality and your goals, and your provider will recommend a plan at your consultation.
Is there downtime?
It depends on the modality. Sublime typically has little to no downtime. After Sublative RF or Matrix Pro, redness and warmth commonly last about 24–72 hours, and Sublative RF can leave temporary texture changes; recovery varies with treatment intensity. Most clients return to normal activities the same day.
Does it hurt?
Sessions typically take 30–60 minutes. Numbing cream is applied before Matrix Pro and Sublative RF treatments to keep you comfortable; Sublime usually feels warm.
When will I see results?
Collagen rebuilds gradually, so improvement continues over about 3–6 months after treatment. Individual results vary.
Is Matrix right for my skin type?
Matrix uses radiofrequency energy, which can be used across a wide range of skin tones and types. Your provider will assess your skin and history at your consultation to confirm it's a good fit.
Can Matrix treat acne scars?
Sublative RF and Matrix Pro RF microneedling are commonly used to improve the look of acne scarring and uneven texture, and they're often combined in a series. Your provider will assess your scarring and skin type and recommend the right approach.
